If nature took a hint from Monet this tree would be it

Since we are a wood flooring company we have an unending fascination with trees. We have talked about walnut, hickory, oak and many other interesting and beautiful species but this one is special. The rainbow tree or the Eucalyptus deglupta is just hands down an amazing tree.

No this is not photoshop or CGI this is nature doing its thing. Eucalyptus deglupta is a tall tree, commonly known as the ranibow eucalytpus or the Mindanao gum or rainbow gum. It grows in areas such as Mindanao, Seram, New Guinea and New Britian. This tree fares best in tropical regions that get a significant amount of rain

The unique bark is the most distinctive feature of the tree. Patches of the outer bark will shed annually but at different times, revealing a bright green inner bark. This bark, once exposed will then darken and mature showing off purple, blue, orange and reddish colors. As the bark matures and dried the bright colors recede until they are again stripped away revealing once again a stunningly bright palette of color.

In the right conditiions it can grow to up to 200 feet tall. The rainbow eucalyptus does grow domestically in southern California, Texas and Florida but the lack of constant moisture means the colors are less intense. The best examples in the US are found in Hawaii. For more information and how to get a hold of a tree of your own or some wood from it follow the links below.
